Mr. Alonso is a former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and former Chairman of the Puerto Rico Planning Board. He is a Cum Laude graduate of the University of Puerto Rico and obtained his J.D. Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico Law School. He was associate director of the University of Puerto Rico Law Review. He has taught law courses at the University of Puerto Rico Law School and has served as Director of the Graduate School of Public Administration of the University of Puerto Rico and is a former professor and Director of the LLM Program of the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico.
He is a former Director of the Office of Legislative Services of the Legislative Assembly. He practiced law privately as a name partner in a San Juan law firm. He was Chairman of the Supreme Court Board of Bar Examiners and Coordinator of the Third Judicial Conference of the Americas. Presently he serves as Chairman of the Commission on the Future of the Judicial Branch of the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. He is a member of the Puerto Rico Bar Association; the American Bar Association and the Interamerican Bar Association.
As a Senior Counsel of the firm, Mr. Alonso oversees different aspects of counseling and of the practice, including environmental, health and transactional matters. He also concentrates on land use regulations and Administrative Law.
Mr. Alonso is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, the United States District Court of Puerto Rico and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
