Mr. Zarel Soto-Acabá obtained a B.A. in Social Sciences in 2009 from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, his Juris Doctor from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico School of Law (Magna Cum Laude) in 2012, and his LL.M., with a concentration in Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution from the Interamerican University Law School, (Summa Cum Laude) in 2014.

While in Law School, Mr. Soto-Acabá was part of the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico Law Review, first as a writer and later as an editor. He was recognized with the “Charles Cuprill Oppenheimer Award” as the student with the highest grade in Administrative Law.

Mr. Soto-Acabá started his career as a Judicial Clerk for the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals, where he clerked with the Hon. Fraticelli Torres and Hon. Sixto Hernández Serrano. Upon concluding his clerkship, Mr. Soto-Acabá worked as an Assistant Solicitor General in the Puerto Rico Department of Justice. In said position, he represented the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in litigation before the Puerto Rico Supreme Court, as well as before the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals and the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in a wide variety of cases, including: bidding processes and government procurement, breach of contracts, construction law, extraordinary writs, administrative law, medical malpractice, among others.

At the Solicitor’s General Office, Mr, Soto-Acabá developed a solid Constitutional Law practice handling high profile public policy cases of historic relevance for Puerto Rico.

Prior to joining Reichard & Escalera LLC, Mr. Soto-Acabá worked as an In house Corporate Litigation Counsel at the largest group of hospitals and healthcare providers of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.  In said position, he represented hospitals and clinical facilities in cases regarding healthcare, medical malpractice, torts, mental health and breach of contracts. He was also engaged in contract drafting and negotiation of medical equipment.

On 2017, Mr. Zarel Soto-Acabá joined Reichard & Escalera, LLC as part of the Litigation and Labor and Employment Practice Groups. He is engaged with general complex corporate commercial litigation matters regarding securities, class actions, multi district litigation, antitrust, international business transactions involving the Puerto Rico Dealers Act as well as an array of contractual disputes.

Mr. Soto-Acabá is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, the U.S. District Court of P.R. and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is also a public notary.
